This painting which I called "Opera" reminds me of a Chinese theatre representation. The open mouth like she is singing and the flowers who fly out as music notes.
The advantage of oilpaint is that it is so thick, you can erase the sketching lines. In this painting I overdid it and even whiped out the contour lines. A surrealistic image is the result. More an illustration than a painting.
What I particulary like about it is when you stand right in front if it, you can see the thickness of the paint. And all the different colors of which it is made. Because of the thick paint the lightfall and the shadows changes due to the relief.
Another experiment that worked out well.

Het schilderij "Opera" doet denken aan een Chinese theatervoorstelling. De open mond zingt en de bloemen staan voor muzieknoten.
Het voordeel van olieverf is dat de verf zo dik is dat je over al je schetslijnen heen verft zonder die nog terug te zien. In dit schilderij ging ik daar zo ver in dat alleen de donkerste stukken overbleven zoals de mond, de ogen en het haar. Dit effect heb ik verder uitgewerkt waardoor het gezicht uit losse componenten lijkt te bestaan. Het geheel krijgt een overdreven stylistisch effect. Meer een illustratie dan een schilderij.
Het aardige is dat als je vlak voor het schilderij staat, je pas ziet hoe dik de verflagen zijn waardoor er een soort reliëf verschijnt met schaduwwerking. Het wit is dan ook opgebouwd uit heel veel andere kleuren waardoor de achtergrond lijkt te veranderen met een andere lichtval.
Weer is er uit een experiment iets bijzonders ontstaan.
